Stephen McCranie's Space Boy Volume 5 by Stephen McCranie

5.0

In this volume, the central theme is Amy's wish to discover more about Oliver and the conflict between two of her new friends, Cassie and David. Amy has no idea what is going on with Oliver, but still wants to help him, which just broke my heart.
Reading this comic again after a year (perhaps more?) definitely changes my perspective. I already know Oliver's secret and all the hints are so much more tragic to me now. One example are the murals that Amy discovers, that will later be explained in a long flashback - it was just really sad :(
Cassie's problem with her boyfriend also made me appreciate the comic more, because I had already forgotten what a good friend Amy is, especially in that situation. Her individual look on things and, of course, her experience with her best friend Jemmah living 30 years apart, gives her a unique attitude to such topics. It was handled in a very mature way (and not overly dramatic like in many romances).
Every time I reach the end of a Space Boy comic, I want to read more, which really makes no sense at all, because I have already read the following chapters. It's just that the current webtoons chapters are so much later, when Oliver's mystery is lifted. These chapters still have their high school charm that I enjoyed at the beginning. Nevertheless, I'm excited for the next books and the first climax that is approaching. There's going to be so much suspense!
