The Bee Sting by Paul Murray
5.0
#41 of 2023 and my fifth #BookerwithBay from the 2023 longlist – The Bee Sting by Paul Murray.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
At ~650 pages, The Bee Sting is this years longest nominee. And I was shocked to have read it in only a few days! Speaks to how good it is!
This fast-paced family epic follows the once-wealthy Barnes family, father Dickie, mother Imelda, daughter Cass, and son PJ. While their family fractures deepen with the economic recession, all four cope in different ways: building an apocalypse-proof bunker, social masquerading, partying and binge-drinking, running away from home. As readers go back into each character’s past, we learn there’s FAR more than meets the eye here, and they all will have to confront the past before it’s too late.
