Under a White Sky by Elizabeth Kolbert

5.0

In writing about the ways in which humans are trying to deal with the messes we've made, Elizabeth Kolbert covers the work of a lot of smart, dedicated people with creative approaches to addressing hard problems. She also makes it clear that we have a bad track record of implementing "solutions" without fully understanding their impacts, and in doing so, creating new problems to solve. The reporting and writing are excellent and engaging. Mixed opinions in my book group as to whether it this book was ultimately optimistic or discouraging -- but the author herself says this is "a book about the world spinning out of control."
