The Lost Aria by Mark Wandrey
4.0

So far this was the best book in the series. Not only is there quite a bit of nice action but, as I hoped in my review of Sonata in Orionis, Minu has indeed become quite a bit of an ass-kicker.

It is another fairly large book. My page count add-on to Calibre claims it’s 682 pages. Unlike Sonata in Orionis this book takes off straight from where the previous one left of. The story continues to develop and ventures further into the mystery of The Lost and the mystery of the humanoids of the galaxy. Minu makes some quite interesting, and game changing, discoveries. I am quite interested in this part of the story.

There are a lot more good action in this book and Minu gets to do some nice ass-kicking. Something that comes to quite a bit of a surprise to some of the premier, and arrogant, species in the galaxy. I quite liked these bits.

Unfortunately there are also a few less good parts. The author still seems to be a bit fixated on sexuality and there are some unnecessary feminist passages which is not my cup of tea. Also, come on, I do not need to read about first menstruation cycles and crap like that!

Those are issues that I can forgive since they are not very dominant but what is really irking me is that quite a few of the leaders of the Chosen are total assholes. Everything from “just” being assholes to trying to use their position to have sex with Minu in a so absolutely awkward and stupid way it just pissed me off. The parts with Jacob (the first of the Chosen) being both incredibly stupid, detached from reality and generally a dickwad really drags the story down. I almost took off that fourth star just because of this shit.

Luckily, Minu has become quite a bit of an ass-kicker so these asshats do get some of what they deserve. Also Minu do have some leverage in…actually that’s too much of a spoiler so you have to read the book for that part.

I do wish that idiot Jacob is submitted to a violent and well deserved, shall we say “removal”, from the story soon though.

Anyway, on the whole this book was quite enjoyable to read for me. Now I am really eager to see where the story goes.
