The Borden Murders: Lizzie Borden & the Trial of the Century by Sarah Miller
4.0
I read this for an upcoming book club discussion.
Three years ago I attended a play about the life of Lizzie Borden . I felt afterwards that she was innocent. Of course that play was biased to her innocence. As I read this book I began to have my doubts. As the author points out we may never know. So much contradictory testimony. In any case Lizzie spent several months in jail and had to live the rest of her life knowing that the majority of people thought her guilty.
Miller does a fantastic job of presenting the case. It is well researched and Miller is not biased to either side.
A times it’s a bit dry ( courtroom testimony is rarely exciting) but overall excellent book.
This is billed as ages 10 and up but with gruesome details I don’t know what 10-year-old should be reading this book.
