Good second chance romance. Dusty walked on the page as a perfect partner. But definitely a bit of a doormat for Cam. Cam’s story has built throughout the series. She remained true to the character throughout the book. I disliked the relationship with her parents and the lack of resolution. I wish Dusty had stood up to Cam more. And I appreciated that in this story the author mentioned Dusty working in other countries, working for female employers, etc. because the other books were very cishet white. This book was, too, but Dusty at least knew POC people. I know it’s a small town romance but at this point all 4 books took place almost exclusively on Rebel Blue and they were somehow even more insular than a small town. I can never get past other reviewers questioning where these people were on Jan 6. And while I am pretty sure Dusty was off working on a ranch somewhere, I can’t be sure about anyone else on Rebel Blue and I wish the author had done more to address that.
Overall, cute series. Easy to listen to, especially at faster speeds. This was a nice wrap up to the series. But the series overall was very insular and very white which feels disgusting in 2025.
