WOW. These books never cease to amaze me. I probably started reading the Gone series in middle school, and both then and now, I've always been wildly impressed with Michael Grant's writing and how he doesn't patronize at all to a YA audience. I wanted to eat up some of the lines in this book, the writing was just brilliant.

Also brilliant that now, in addition to the original series, this trilogy has given me another cast of characters to absolutely love. It was beautiful to have Dekka, of course, and then the return of old faces like
Spoiler Astrid, Sam, and EDILIO (how can one not love Edilio?)
was so freaking exciting. Drake is still the most terrifying book character of all time and I will fight anyone on that. Then there were the characters introduced in this trilogy; pretty much loved them all, especially Armo!

The plot and the action were super tight, as always. So much gore and guts and I don't know, I was really here for it. I think it adds a lot to the story, just how brutal and nasty things are in this world.

The whole ending kind of blew me out of the water
Spoiler it's all a simulation, and we leave the team voting on whether or not to keep living or shut it all down??
That open-ended finish broke me a little bit, but I loved Grant's acknowledgements and how the reader is supposed to fill in the blank.

It feels like there might not be any more books set in the world of the FAYZ, but if ever there were, I'd sure as hell read them. This author and series has been fulfilling me for probably almost a decade and I'll always read more. Michael Grant is an absolute favorite and this book was unsurprisingly fantastic.
