It's been a while since I read the first book of this series but I do remember it fondly. Felt like a cool Urban Fantasy Mystery Dark Academia (those were a lot of words!) book with a fun, very damaged protagonist told with two different interesting intervowen storylines.

The plot in this book was way more streamlined but in some incredible fashion felt way more messy and chaotic and just kind of poorly paced which just led to boredom occuring regularly.

Aside from our protagonist Alex, which I quite enjoy as a main character and she do has some really great snarky one-liners, the book does almost nothing to explore its cast and characters and just leaves them as bland sidekicks which comes especially apparent with her roommate / best friend.

Also the magic system feels very underdeveloped and being more of a plot device than anything and just creating some stupid fetch quests / chores the characters have to do.

I still give this one 3 stars since I do really enjoy the premise and the whole setting that the author created here. And also the ending kind of grabbed me and makes me interested what is going to happen next here. But overall I must say that this is much worse than the first book in this series.
