The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

5.0

I am a Slut for greek mythology and retellings of old stories. So when I found one of my favorite myths came to life in this book, I was so down to read it. Granted it took me getting back into reading after years of being "too busy" but here we are.
I won't even lie a little bit, I once read a fanfic called An Ode to Boys of Salt and Blood which is basically this book but like with members of a boy band coupled with more gore and s*x and was probably 100k more words for no reason at all. Similar to this book, it also caused my heart so much pain. I'm thankful for this book to have been made bc I now think fanfics are mega weird so I won't reread that. ANYWAYS
An overall solid retelling of a queer story. You canNOT convince me that Achilles and Patroclus were Not in love even in other retellings. I wish Patroclus's ending would have been a bit longer, but I loved the switch of focus to Achilles and his anguish. His rage and sorrow were palpable throughout the pages. I was highkey terrified that Patroclus would not get his happy ending and proper burial so thank you for giving that to him. 5/5 from me and I'm going to come back for more for sure.
