This is heavy going! The first half I felt was a bit of a slog but the pace picked up for the second half. The length is a challenge - in parts how events and characters are fleshed out gives so much depth and makes the characters real in a way I don't think I've read before, yet at times I questioned if the level of detail was truly necessary, and if at least 200 pages could potentially be shaved off. That being said - I won't forget this book, yet don't think I'll be keen to revisit it. So many points are a complete gut punch but I became so attached to each of them. Would I recommend - I honestly don't know how to answer that.
