Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao

This rating was a no brainer for me, and I give it five easy stars. The character of Ana I believe had some inspiration rooted in Anastasia Romanov. The real Anastasia’s brother has a blood illness- but Ana here has what is called an Affinite (read: natural born powers) for BLOOD. Ana gives me Scarlett Witch vibes, but she’s the Blood Witch. I can’t help thinking what a dream team the two would make. Moving on swiftly from my Marvel obsession- I was very very impressed by this book. It was a real page Turner. I didn’t like Ramson’s last name as I thought it cheesy, and I thought the author referred to the Affinite too much. (Ex Ana reached for her Affinite) instead of telling me I wish she’d described how she did it instead- like Ana pulled into the recesses of herself, scanning the room. By the time the book is a little ways in everyone knows what her power is and how she uses it- what it can do. that’s about the only criticism I have truly! I pictured her brother Luca looking like Joffrey from Game of Thrones and I have no literal idea why. I did picture Ransom as Dimitri from the animated Anastasia and for some REALLY weird reason to me- I Pictured Ana looking like Cara Delevingne. ((Please don’t actually ever cast her though please )) This book I’m very glad to see is the first in a series and I’m super happy to add this to my collection and continue. I REALLY liked reading Ana as an antihero - maybe almost even as a villain! Triggers for this book Include blood and graphic violence-mental manipulation and de@th. My lists aren’t always exhaustive so be sure to look up triggers ! I appreciated reading her growth throughout the book and I really liked the authors ending. Definitely can’t wait to get the rest of these and read like crazy! Get this book!
