I've been meaning to read this since I was tiny and saw Lisa Simpson skip reading it on TV. I wanted to fill in the blanks of her pop quiz, lol. And I've finally read it!!
It's been on my bookshelf for about a year now (perhaps?), and I truly only picked it up because I needed a cutesy, quiet, palate-cleansing book while I was in the middle of reading Stephen King's The Stand. I'd come across a SA scene in it, and was too disturbed to jump back into it, so I looked up books that are "cottagecore," sweet, and happy. The Wind and Willows popped up, and I excitedly remembered that I owned it!
It is certainly a refreshing read, especially after reading a dark or intense book. ❤️ The characters are loveable and funny, and you'll be wishing you lived on the river with Rat and Mole, or in the woods with gentle giant Badger. ❤️ The ambiance shifts from chapter to chapter, but a good chunk of them are cozy, homey, lowlit, quiet, woodsy stories. There are fantastical chapters, adventurous ones, chapters about self-discovery or humility or bravery... It's just very delightful and pleasant all around. ❤️
