The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean
4.0

This was a different (& darker, if that's possible) twist on the vampire concept. At times it seems almost like a YA book, but there's more to it than what's happening at surface level. IDK if I was meant to read through the lines as much as I did, but I found it to be allegorical of human women's dissatisfaction about the patriarchy only seeing them as valuable while they are useful towards its goals, especially with regard to their ability to produce offspring. I actually liked it more because of how effectively that came across while not being completely obvious about it. I consider myself to be pretty progressive, but the way the author approached it increased my sympathy more than anything else I've read. I'm going to be thinking about that for a lot longer than it took me to read the book, and that's beneficial, I believe. Nicely done!
