How Europe Underdeveloped Africa by Walter Rodney

3.0

I do recommend it as a read for the subject matter but a lot of the narrative of the book often gets bogged down by rodney wanting to cram as much information about colonization in as much of Africa as possible and while this is a noble and important effort it would most likely be better served as independent books.
Also in hindsight a lot of the starry eyed optimism about the communist states present at the time can get a bit grating at times knowing what we know now.

learning from the past is important and rodney gives us a big important insight into it, but we cant expect him to predict the future nor tell us what we know now.

If you want the rundown this is a good place to start and then delve into more recent tellings of the individual struggles afterwards, because like Rodney, we shall learn from our collective past to understand how we may appreciate and create more free and fair futures for us all
