I reverse judged this book by its cover. The cover, and formatting, did more for me than the writing or story itself did. Lady Venom Takes a Mistress was very interesting in its premise. Poesy and Lady Venom’s first meeting set the bar really high and led me astray in terms of my expectations.

As a novella, the pacing was really off. It was a mix of insta-love and insta-lust and neither were executed well… at all. I am hesitant to say the writing was bad, but I am struggling to find a better way to describe the awkward sentences and informality, as well as the corniness of it all.

There were enjoyable parts but they were overshadowed by the lack of development of every other aspect of the book: the plot, character development, backstories, details, and even some of the smut scenes.

I could have DNFd this but I held on to hope that it would get better. It didn’t.
