Olalla
by Robert Louis Stevenson
I’ve heard that this story is about a female vampire, and was very interested in reading it. The narrative unfolds gradually. The male protagonist is suggested by his doctor to "change airs" to recover his health, prompting him to travel to a Spanish villa where he encounters his hosts: an unusual family consisting of a lethargic mother who basks in the sun all day; her slow-minded son in his twenties; and her enigmatic daughter, who bears a striking resemblance to a portrait of a long-deceased relative that hangs in the guest room. It has a gothic atmosphere, but instead of a castle, the setting is an old, nearly dilapidated manor on the outskirts of Spain; and instead of winter chill, it takes place during the summer, filled with sunshine and long nature walks.
I'm not so sure about the ending though, don't know what to make of it.
