After reading "James" by Percival Everett, I couldn't recall whether I'd ever actually read this book and thought it might be fun to see how close to the original story "James" followed.
It stayed pretty true for the first bit but diverged quite a bit by the end. I can see why, since Jim spends most of the end of the original story shut up in a cabin under lock and key.
But it any case it was interesting to see what the newer book was based on. And the original story had quite a few shifts in tone that I was not expecting. (That ending with Tom meeting back up with Huck was so over-the-top ridiculous. 😂)
