Irene: i'm NOT gay
Also irene: pushes clare out the window to bury her feelings

Being serious now. Phenomenal book. Also i cannot talk about the book without also discussing the movie's take on it. Just, the unreliable narration irene being used by larsen and hall for the ending. Larsen heavily implies that irene did kill clare partially bc of her jealousy and fear that clare was going to takeover her life (somehow), and the fear she felt when she began also reigniting her friendship/love for clare. The movie utilizing clare's unreliability in the movie (hazy pov shots, some pharmesutical drug use, and of course the entire film being black and white bc nothing is ever completely black and white). Hall shows her perspective and theory on the book's ending to say that, no, irene did not push clare (intentionally). Irene loved clare. Yes she was paranoid and jealous, but she did love clare. She took a defensive stance with her arm over clare, when clare's husband began to storm towards her. Irene's first reaction was to protect her.
