My first thoughts when reading this book were something like: "This is wildly different from what I usually read." And yeah this is very much hard Science Fiction which I have dabbled into a little bit but really not that much. I wanna get into it more though.

Without spoiling too much this book tells two different stories that are connected with each other and also interweave at certain points. While I found one of these stories to be mostly fascinating and delivering some heartbreaking moments, the other one was often times more boring. Pretty much the same goes for the characterization although there was one in "the boring parts" that I liked.

I did this as a buddy read with limited reading during each day and pretty much stuck to the schedule apart from the last two section because I wanted to know how it ends. With that it's kinda easy to see how my enjoyment progressed. In the beginning I was having a hard time. But then I really enjoyed it until about the halfway mark where it flattened again and afterwards the last third / last quarter was very engaging again and I thought the resolution was quite well done.

I think I will continue going with this series but I don't have the urge to do it immediately which I really wanted to do with the other hard Sci-Fi series I read (Remembrance of Earth's Past / Three Body Problem).
