Dancing Cats and Neglected Murderesses by Edward Gorey

4.0

I was in the mood to read something a little peculiar, and certainly lucked out when I stumbled across this title of Gorey's. The book is very creative, and details, both in wonderful illustrations and accompanying words, cats engaged in a number of unlikely feline pursuits, as well as a series 'neglected murderesses' from history. The inclusion of both such obscurities here felt a little odd; Gorey certainly lulls one into a false sense of security by showing a lovely row of cats practising on a barre, and then detailing women who had poisoned husbands and the like. A memorable and rather quick read.
