The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton

ARC provided by publisher, opinions are my own.

Timely and all too real.

Between Frida's recollections of the worst hurricane to hit Puerto Rico since Maria (which mirrors much of what Hurricane Fiona did this week to the island), paired with Wanda, one of the strongest hurricanes ever hitting coastal Florida a year later that firmly ushered in a new age of strengthening storms, this book was a all too real and realistic looks at the effects of climate change that are already too late too probably stop.

Mixed with a bit of magical realism that mostly worked for me, the book follows Wanda, named for the storm she was born in, across her lifetime as she learns to survive an ever increasingly cruel world in which Florida is mostly underwater.

Fascinating and horrifying at the same time.
