Tattletale by Kay Cove
5.0
Holy Moly I loved this! Of course this cover (okay the colour) drew me in, and Kay Cove has been on my TBR list, but having the opportunity to ARC read this was too good to pass up. I am so glad I was chosen to do just that, and I can now say I am hooked. I already love dark/unhinged and twisted, and this lives up to all that. There is some serious triggers for some, so please ensure you make yourself familiar with those.
Fiona and Levi (Cricket and Lance) are assassins within PALADIN. They meet as teenagers and become instant friends, and love each other. PALADIN is their family now, as all the members have a story of how they got there, and on entering, leave their old lives behind. Cricket's story is horrific, but this makes her one hell of a tough FMC, and she truely shines throughout. Lance is our MMC, and is story is tragic as well, and he possesses a certain "cockiness" that I came to love.
Cricket is still haunted by her past, and wants to exact revenge. This is not something that as a member of PALADIN can happen, but despite it all, that never leaves. Cricket and Lance find themselves on opposing viewpoints of this, and this leads to Cricket feeling broken and her trust for Lance destroyed. Lance will do anything to keep Cricket safe, so when she is asked to become friendly with a certain billionaire to help the First Lady, Lance is there. He finds himself caught, and we see him do ANYTHING for her. OMG there is so many twists and turns in this book, it was suspenseful and left me on the edge of my seat. And when the spice kicked up for Cricket and Lance.....OMFG it hit so good, these two.........loved it. Without giving spoilers, this is the 2nd book in the PALADIN series, but, like me, can be read as a standalone, but it now means I need to read the 1st, and hold on to your hats for the 3rd, if the ending of this was any indication. Deserves more than 5 stars. LOVED IT.
