Hudson's Luck
by Lucy Lennox
Another fun and sweet addition to the Forever Wilde series! I love these Wilde boys and the Wilde family dynamics we get in each story.
Hudson Wilde is not only the oldest of the Wilde family boys but he’s also the only straight one…or so he thinks. Since he’s the oldest, he’s shouldered a lot of responsibility and stress when it comes to caring for everyone and providing for his family. He’s really particular about things and has goals planned out for himself to hit both personally and professionally but when his girlfriend thinks he proposed when he really didn’t, he’s struggling to hold on to some of his goals. He ends up in Ireland to assess a business opportunity and he finds way more than he expected in the little pub on the coast.
Charlie Murray grew up working in his family’s pub in Ireland, learning to pour pints, chat with patrons and so many other things about the business along the way. He has a big personality, a little bossy and isn’t afraid to embrace his feminine features, keeping his red hair long and wearing clothes that highlight his thin physique. Charlie’s passion is in training sheepdogs and his dog Mama is one of the best on the competition circuit. His family’s pub and all of its history means the world to him and he’ll do anything to keep things in the family, including going to America to keep things authentic.
These two have a connection from the first time Hudson walks into Fig & Bramble and sits at the bar while Charlie’s working. Even though Hudson thinks he’s straight, he can’t get Charlie off his mind and they hook up before Hudson goes back to Texas. Then, months later, Charlie shows up in Texas to help open the franchise Hudson’s project managing. Things are really awkward between them for a long time while Hudson figures out what he wants but once they’re on the same page, their relationship is full of sweetness, banter and lots of fun. I just wish they got there faster - I would have loved to see more of them happy together!
The thing I disliked most about this story was Hudson’s hot and cold attitude toward Charlie before he finally gave in - it just felt like Charlie got the short end of the stick so frequently and I wanted more for that sweet man! I’m glad Hudson finally accepted his feelings and his new non-label and gave him just that. I also could have done without some of the unnecessary addition of Hudson’s ex-girlfriend, Darci. It just didn’t really add much to the story and took away from Hudson and Charlie’s story.
I loved all of the Wilde family and their banter like in every book in this series - they’re all adorable and I’d love to be a Wilde! Great setup for Augie and Saint’s story next and I can’t wait to get started!
