Welp folks, here we are again. Another reading of The Way of Kings in the bag.

What is there to say about this series that hasn't already been said? The characters are fantastic, the worldbuilding a decade in the making, Brandon Sanderson proves himself yet again to be a paragon of fantasy writing.

Mr. Sanderson has a lot to say in this book: about mental health, about the ideals of honor and nobility, about religion and the ways it changes over time. There is war, there is espionage, there is sabotage. More importantly there is hope, community, friendship, and changing for the better.

Most importantly, there are enormous anime swords that skip cutting flesh and opt instead to cut straight through your soul.

This book makes me a better person every time I read it. It is the ultimate proof to me that, no matter what you have been through, you can always learn and grow above it. This book is a testament to overcoming circumstance. This book, in part, got me to start exercising regularly again.

My advice for a first-time reader: take your time with it. This book is SO dense that it well and truly earns the "paving stone" moniker. There will be a million terms that you don't understand, and the book will ask you to simply take this in stride so it can explain it all to you later. I DNF'd this book 3 times before I was able to finish it. But it's worth it. It is such a worthwhile read. You'll get there, please just be patient with it.

P.S. Adolin Kholin is best boy. BEST boy. The only one!
