3.5

If I was reviewing the characters only, this book would get 5 stars, because Thor is one of the most interesting agents we have encountered so far. Same goes for the setting, Alaska was a beautiful and different setting for this thriller. It was nice to meet Clara again, but in the first chapters she was plain annoying, because there were several inconsistencies with the ending of the last book, Haunted Destiny. The author tries to create friction here, regardless of how much it clashes with the last book. After those chapters, Thor and Clara become a good team, though. I wouldn't have deducted much for this, but then..oh boy..the plot was simply not very good. It was obvious who it was from the middle of the book, it catered to basically every cliche known to mankind and the supporting characters just didn't play a role in the book, very much unlike the previous ones by the same author in the same series.
Unfortunately, I cannot give more than 2.5 stars for the plot. I added a star for Thor and Alaska. 20 books in, it doesn't come as a surprise that there is a book that isn't to the same standard as the previous ones, I just am so sad it must have been this one.
