Mysteries of the Quantum Universe by Thibault Damour
5.0
This graphic novel kicks off with Bob (main character) mourning over the loss of his good friend & pet dog, Rick. Rick comes to life in a form of a hallucination & convinces Bob to go on an adventure to get back on his feet. We then watch, alongside Bob as he gets sucked into a wormhole & kickstarts his mission to uncover the mysteries of the quantum universe. He, like myself, am not entirely educated about quantum physics but he meets various theoretical physicists & gains valuable lessons. *There are reading notes (glossary), at the end of the book, to explain in clearer details.
We are later on introduced to alternate universes (all present in the same reality) which I’ve been very interested in. Sometimes I wonder what the other ‘me’ is up to; where they are living better/worse lives than I have & whether they meet & love the same people that I do.
About the visuals: I usually like colourful things but because this book was mainly in black & white, I was able to follow the story/content without getting distracted. As some contents got heavier to absorb, there were little coloured elements sprinkled through that was able to keep me engaged. Towards the end, we see more coloured elements appearing & the final story ends with an alternate ending to Rick’s mishap.
I definitely wish that I read this graphic novel years back when I was still in school struggling to understand plain science (& physics). I’m thankful that graphic novels like this exist which made my life a lot easier, trying to understand these theories.
