The Lost Girl by Anne Ursu

4.0

I enjoyed this book, but while I rush to give Ursu’s other books to kids, this one felt more like an adult book in disguise for me. It’s a very allegorical, fairytale rendering of the #metoo movement, depicting how our current generation of girls are already banding together against the patriarchy while we Olds are still telling them it’s okay for girls to like blue and boys to like pink. The narrator in particular drove this one home for me as an adult book, and I’m not sure how much a kid would really grok the themes of the text, though they can definitely enjoy the surface level fantasy story.
