Your Table Is Ready: Tales of a New York City Maître D by Michael Cecchi-Azzolina

3.0

Full review to come but for now:
This book was wildly entertaining.
The writing style had my heart racing and my pits sweating like I was right there during a dinner rush. I laughed and gasped at points. The author did come off as a bit grumpy and pretentious at times, but the stories were good enough for me to be able to ignore that.
I only worked in the restaurant business for a short time, but I can see how people familiar with the lifestyle would really enjoy this book.
With a few cuts and maybe a section addressing the harassment issues in a genuine way, this would’ve been a 4-star read for me. The icky feeling I was left with after reading how the author described certain people and experiences makes it hard for me to recommend this to some people.
But hey, if you can ignore the bits that might not sit well with you, then you’re gonna love the tales you get to read about in this memoir.

I’d like to thank the author and St. Martin’s Press for an advance reader copy of this book.
