Something Blue by Emily Giffin
5.0

I wasn't very thrilled going into this book, just because of how much I hated Darcy after Something Borrowed. I knew I wasn't going to like it very much, but I ended up reading it in three or four days. Towards the beginning, I didn't think Darcy would end up any different. As I read the book, however, it seemed like I was reading about a totally different person altogether, and I enjoyed it. Whenever I thought about the fact that it really was Darcy, and how much I didn't like her, it made the book difficult to enjoy, but in the end, I loved that Darcy was getting her happy ending. In the beginning I was happy that Darcy got pregnant because it was such a stupid thing for her to have done and I wanted her to realize how stupid and naive she really was for expecting everything to go her way. Once Marcus left and Claire basically deserted her and she wasn't speaking to her mother and definitely not Rachel, I felt sorry for her because of how alone she was. No one, not even Darcy, should feel that alone and helpless. As soon as she decided to move to England to live with Ethan, I knew that there was going to be some romance there. It was really odd, though, because I've seen the movie quite a few times since I read the book, so having Darcy live with Ethan threw me off a bit, given how much they hated each other in the movie. I couldn't quite remember how their relationship was in the book, so it was slightly weird when Ethan was nice to her. It caught me off guard, however, when she started dating Geoffrey, especially given how close to the end of the book it was. I figured maybe she was getting what she wanted: her materialistic, rich lifestyle with someone who adored the fact that she was having twins. I was so angry when she wouldn't end it with Geoffrey and when Ethan wouldn't end it with Sondrine because I knew that Ethan and Darcy were supposed to be together. Once I realized how deep her affections were for Ethan (although I had suspected it all along), I was so happy for her to finally get her happy ending and to finally be with someone she loved. I really wish that she had become better friends with Rachel, but we can't have everything we want. I honestly reread the part where Darcy and Ethan kissed for the first time about ten times. It was so beautiful and passionate. Happy endings like that in good books make me so giddy. I just love Emily Giffin's writing. Amazing, amazing, amazing book.
