Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir by Eddie Huang

2.0

Yuck. What a letdown. I was excited to read this. I just couldn't get past the negativity. I know he was trying to shine a light on his particular immigrant experience, but I just didn't feel any identification with him or his situation. Also, he seemed to go back and forth on how he felt about certain things. One minute proud of his heritage, the next minute ashamed. While that probably reflects accurately his feelings, it made for very disjointed reading. Only redeeming quality was the humor, which shone through at times despite the ridiculous language and negativity.
