Trials of Death
by Darren Shan
Again, I'm enjoying this series... But I'm thinking that books 3-5 should have all been one longer book. The events in books 4 and 5 are just continuations of the storyline that begins in book 3. I understand it is all one saga, but neither this book nor the one before it actually contain an entire story with a beginning, middle and end.. And the events in book 5 leave on a cliffhanger, which leads me to believe that book 6 will be looped in with this as well.
Comparing this series to another like it (The Series of Unfortunate Events) makes this issue blatantly obvious. Each of the Snicket books is an individual story that fits within the over-arcing plot of the series but can stand on its own. The past three Cirque books have not been able to stand on their own, so it is problematic for me.
All this to say that the story is definitely interesting, and I look forward to reading the next books.
