The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien
3.0

I love the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. My dad reading them to me is a memory I'll never forget. However, rereading it, I found that about half of the book just bores me to tears. Pretty much once they leave the shire, and until they leave Rivendell, that entire span could be deleted and I wouldn't even care. Bonus boring points if a character they meet up with later gives them a long speech about what they were doing while they were gone. And my god the SONGS. If I have to read one more 3 page song I'm gonna die. And I'm not musically inclined so in my head, I'm reading all these "songs" in complete colorless monotone speech. At some point I started just scanning through them and got back to the story proper.

I know book lovers crucify you if you say this, but I'm gonna say it. The movie version is the best version of what this story can be.
