The Last Murder at the End of the World
by Stuart Turton
Another really intriguing concept from Stuart Turton!
Despite the change in setting, there was something comfortingly familiar in the set-up of the novel: a cloistered community, an arbitrary set of rules, the sense that not all is as it seems, a sudden twist that changes everything. This is not to say the plot was predictable - far from it - but I did enjoy having an idea of the beats that might lie ahead.
Well written and easy to read, I chugged happily through this in the space of a day. There were a couple of moments where I found myself frustrated with the lack of unveiling of mysteries (a feeling I remember from reading TSDoEH), but with a little patience I was richly rewarded. I was also pleased that the final twists were less… dramatic than in TSDoEH.
Overall a really entertaining and enjoyable read, and although not quite as good as TDatDW, still a book I’d be happy to read again.
