WayMaker: Finding the Way to the Life You've Always Dreamed Of by Ann Voskamp

4.0

This book has been my companion for close to 5 months. I enjoyed reading it like a devotional, a little bit at a time. Had I sped through it, I would not have retained as much of the sweet nourishing truths, I think. I needed to go slow to hear God speak to my own heart about how He is my Waymaker. This book essentially has “God with us” as its core message, but the way Ann expounds on it in her poetic timbre and always based on Scripture is so life giving. She uses examples from her own life’s hard seasons and how she learned to walk with God through them. What do you do when there seems to be no way? It is a wonderful testimony to her humanness and God’s grace and love. I underlined so much truth and wisdom on these pages and it helped me gain a deeper understanding of the value of hard seasons.

The subtitle to this book (“finding the way to the life you’ve always dreamed of”) can seem a little off-putting and too self-helpy. At least it did to me. But the book is not that kind of book at all. The subtitle is answered in a very clever way. Spoiler alert: Just be with the Way (Jesus) and find all you need in Him.
