"a tempest of tea" follows arthie and jin and their crew of misfits and vampires as they pull a heist on the vampire white house to save their tea shop.

i started this book in june of last year as an audiobook (the narrator's voice was british and sick as hell) but my loan returned before i could finish it. i was able to finally read and it finish it in physical format! i'm going to start off by saying that i loved hafsah faizel's writing SO much. her worlds are dark and rich with detail and she creates a vivid atmosphere that is so fun to read. i liked the setting of this book quite a lot, and the basis of the plot was so cool. that being said, i found the characters in this book fell flat for me, which caused the later event of the plot to not hammer as soundly as i would have liked. arthie was very interesting character, but she only grew on me towards the end. the same applies to the weird love triangle she found herself in. now, VAGUE SPOILERS, i admit i was a laith girlie. I GOT TRICKED TOO! but i found arthie's relationship with both laith and matteo to be forced and cringey at some points, which was weird because i ate up the romance in "we hunt the flame". i think everyone involved in that triangle just wasn't developed the way i would have liked, and i still do not understand why arthie is romantically interested in either of them at all, considering the way her character was written and how romance is the furthest thing from her mind. that being said, jin stole the show for me. his humor and his romance with flick was my favorite part and his fate at the end of the book was the most distraught i was during the whole book. i found the twists at the end to be very gasp worthy and i did say "what??" at the end, but again i found the twists to be lacking that final "oomph" factor for me because of the flatness of characters.  i found the overall book to be good, and i really want to read the second one! i just think because of the issues i mentioned the twists and event didn't pull at my hard as much as they could have or would have.

but this also just solidified that i really like hafsah faizel's writing!
