The Adventures of Robin Hood by Roger Lancelyn Green
3.0
Edit: some months later I was still thinking of this book so I'm updating from 2 stars to 3
It's just not well written. The plot is really good, some of the adventures interesting, some of the dialogue sassy. I can see how this must have captured the imagination of people for centuries, I particularly liked the chapter with the old witch and the very ending, but it just didn't have enough description to feel like a really immersive 'I was there' experience which is what I really want from books. I was pleasantly surprised by the very independent Maid Marian too. The writing style lets it down. This is pretty gory- lots of death and punishment and promises of burning men's eyes out and thrashings.
