The Host
by Stephenie Meyer
I just finished reading The Host for the second time. I chose it this month for my library science fiction/fantasy book club. Although I read, enjoyed and understood the appeal of The Twilight books, I don't think they are great books. Too cliched and predictable.
The Host, however, is very entertaining, and it surprised me more than once. I enjoyed it even more the second time. It made me ponder the conflicted nature of humans, and the aliens are complex as well. The characters are interesting and the plot unpredictable. The story pulled me in. I'm sorry to hear that there will two sequels; I really think it functions well as a stand-alone novel. But I'm sure I will read them if they are published!
