Dune by Frank Herbert
5.0
(after reading the sequels I have realised this is definitely a 5 ⭐️ read for me)
I have decided recently to read more Sci-Fi and I thought what better place to start than the Lord of the Rings for science fiction- Dune!
First of all, the entire concept of this book and the themes which are discussed really intrigued me- environmentalism, ecology systems and preservation are really at the forefront and the discussion around them was really well done. Herbert does not tell the reader how they should feel, yet allows them to ponder upon these topics themselves. This book has me questioning a lot around my own opinions which I love!!
Paul as a protagonist whilst I did not connect straight away, seeing him develop across this first instalment was a joy and I think our cast of side characters, whilst not fully fleshed out, definitely added a lot to the story.
Ordered the next 5 books in this series as I could not put this book down, so excited to see where this goes and to see Herbert continue to provoke thought within me!
