Second time reading (December 2024)
I decided to do a re-read of this book for a couple of reasons! The first being I remembered very little about what took place from my 2020 read! I also listened to the audiobook this time around and I think it helped my enjoyment level a little bit more! Looking back at my previous review it looks like I did really enjoy it...But this time around it felt like I was reading the story for the first time again!
I also feel like I am a very different reader than I was in 2020...I have really branched away from reading YA and have focused on reading more Fantasy Romance!
I really liked the characters they started off one way and ended up being something else in a lot of ways. I really like Poppy and her journey of finding herself not everything is as it seems...
Hawk is mysterious...he is a charmer for sure....he appears one way....
I'm just going to say I'm very excited to see where this series is going to go next!!! I hope to pick up book 2 by the end of December or early 2025!!
(February 2020) 5 Star rating according to cawpile...
I read this book as part of the creating and co make waves Readathon under the Love theme...
This is my first adult fantasy and it came highly recommended by my friend Michaela. I don't want to give too much away in this review but I honestly expected this book to go a certain way and it went in the opposite direction!
It was a little slow in the beginning but I think Jennifer Arementrout was setting up the world so that the reader saw Poppy a certain way with a specific upbringing with rules and expectations that just weren't right for her. Thats why she rebelled and went against everything that people expected her to be.
Characters are not who they say they are, rules are ignored and broken, the sexual tension is something real, and a lot of characters die.
If you are looking for rule following this book is not for you! If you are looking for deception, monsters, betrayal, sex, and twists and turns you may want to think about picking this one up!
Characters are NOT who they say they are and I am looking forward to continuing this series to see where it goes next!
