I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

emotional reflective sad fast-paced

5.0

Jeanette McCurdy, former child actress and star, recounts her journey to fame. All seems fine from the outside, a mom’s determination for her child to thrive, but what lurks behind the smiles is devastating. McCurdy unveils her struggles with eating disorders, addiction, and a very complicated relationship with her mother. This unhealthy relationship is the crux of McCurdy’s entire life and we’re witness to all of it in u at th detail.

This was incredibly hard to put down while simultaneously extremely difficult to read. McCurdy’s relationship with her mother is horrifying, you can feel the pain through the pages. I’m Glad My Mom Died is a cutting memoir about a child’s life, with a mother who had her own difficulties with mental health, that lead to some unforgiving actions. McCurdy writes with a raw intensity, a child’s innocence and a desperation difficult to let go of. If you’re going to read a memoir this year, let this be it, 5✨.
