The Strange Journey of Alice Pendelbury by Marc Levy

2.0

#readingchallenge2023 (my extra books!)

A strange journey, from the novel I anticipated to the novel I read-

The beginning was promising- I initially enjoyed Alice’s imaginations, her vivaciousness, her quirkiness (the nose, the interactions w.her friends, etc), but I felt as the novel progressed where it may have seemed she was becoming stronger on her path, she was becoming weaker. There was a dullness; drudging on with predictability, leaving interactions feeling flat and inauthentic. Like the plot was trying to be more than it was, maintaining an air of mystery within the journey that wasn’t really there-

I wanted more structure surrounding the concept of the interesting people she was meant to uncover. The lack of this created the predictability & become honestly boring, since the curiosity was lackluster.
