defiantfall 's review for:
聲の形 7 [Koe no Katachi 7]
by Yoshitoki Oima
The five stars apply to the entire series. I went into this without any real idea of whether I'd like it or not. I just happened to see volumes of it being checked back in at work and decided to give it a try and I was not disappointed. The story is so deep and so real in terms of bullying from the perspective of the bully, the victim, and the bystanders. I love seeing Shoya trying to change for the better, to live with meaning, and to make up for what he has done. It's amazing to see him grow as a character. I love that everyone tries to change but not everyone does like with Naoka and Miki, who both seem truly stuck in their ways. I especially enjoy seeing Shoya's mother and Shoko's mother growing closer after everything that has happened between their kids.
There are very few things in the story that I can say I was a little disappointed by. I think like most everyone who has posted a review, I was a little disappointed by the endings lack of romance. This is probably just because I'm a sucker for shojo and love romantic couples but at the same time I think the way it ended really fits Shoya and Shoko's relationship. In some ways, I don't feel like I got a real idea of Shoko as a person besides her always trying to make for what she perceives as problems her disability causes. I also agree that I'm surprised that there was no resolution between Shoya and his former best friends, Kazuki and Keisuke. It seemed like he would since he met up with everyone else from his elementary class. Besides these points I truly loved this series and would really like to find more manga like it.
