i enjoyed this enough that i'll probably read the sequel when it comes out, but there was real tonal whiplash throughout this book, and though it contains some REALLY dark scenes, the narrative voice still felt YA to me in a way which really didn't work with all the trauma and sexual assault that occurs.

the tone misled me enough that i assumed we WOULDN'T be getting a ghost molesting a twelve year old child in a public bathroom and yet ... here we are.

but i am always here for a story unpicking privilege!
