This was my first Rebecca Yarros book that didn't involve dragons, and I have to say that I was very impressed at how well this woman does both of these genres. And does them well. Though this one wasn't a full 5 stars for me, it was a VERY solid 4. I enjoyed the dual POVs and dual timelines. We have two different couples that we are focusing on with their worlds colliding in the future while trying to determine which road to take. Scarlett and Jameson were sooo in love. Reading about them falling in love during the war was gut wrenching and beautiful at the same time. You knew it was going to end tragically but OMG I was not ready or expecting the TWIST. Then we have Georgia and Noah in the present. Georgia is Scarlett's great grand daughter and is now responsible for her estate since she has passed. A manuscript about Scarlett's life has come to light. A manuscript that is unfinished- the question is what will Georgia do with it. Enter Noah the author who wants to finish it. I liked the whole loathe to lovers situation going on between these two. They clearly got off on the wrong foot but Noah needed Georgia to like him to give him the green light. I did have a harder time connecting with these two than I did with Scarlett and Jameson- not sure why. I think the timelines jumping and moving between chapters made things harder to keep up with. But needless to say I enjoyed watching them fall into and for each other. Georgia was the uber grump (with good reason) and as I have said before I LOVE watching a grump come unfurled!!

Georgia is having a cataclysmic year. Her great grandmother who practically raised her just passed away and her marriage has ended. Her marriage to her cheating husband has ended that is. And now a her mother has swindled some sort of behind closed doors deal with a publisher to have Scarlett's (her great grandmother) unfinished manuscript completed. Georgia has things to say about that. Who could possibly end it the way that she would have wanted? Not him- not Noah Harrison. The dude only writes happy endings and clearly Gran's life was a tragedy. She lost the love of her life during the war. Georgia is going to fight to have rights and say in how this story goes. She doesn't expect Noah to acquiesce so easily but he does. She also doesn't expect him to move in next door to work with her on how this story should go but he does. She is noticing that he is a lot more than she thought. And though her heart has a wall around it, she finds the wall is starting to crumble with how he is treating her. Like she matters. Like her cares. Like he would put his name on the line to do it her way even if he didn't agree. But then truths come out that get misinterpreted and Georgia questions it all. Will she be able to realize that mistakes happen in relationships? And that Noah is her endgame? Or will she close her heart back up and lock it forever?

Noah is working on the best deal of his life. What he doesn't expect? Georgia Stanton. The ice queen as the world calls her. She is in his way between what could be a literal career changing book. She is too hard to work with. She can't see things any way besides hers. But then he starts to realize there is a different person under all of this armor. And she has her armor on for a reason. No one in her life has stuck around. Everyone has left or disappointed her. Well not anymore. Noah is drawn to her and just knows they can be endgame if he can get her there. During the research for this book, Georgia and him find letters from her Gran and her hubby. They put a stark light on tragic things were during the war and what all their love had to endure. Noah still thinks the world wants a happy ending in the manuscript. But he needs more time to get Georgia there. He can sense her walls crumbling. And when they do he falls harder than he thought he would. He just has to hope that she will forgive him for holding things back for a minute until her could get her there. But then the words are taken out of his mouth and out of context. Things shift. He is cut out. He is told to leave. But what Georgia doesn't know is that even though he is listening now doesn't mean he is going to be gone forever. Because he is going to fight for them.

I really enjoyed the different layers of this book. As I said, reading about Jameson and Scarlett and how they didn't have time to think through decisions or build up their romance. They had to jump in because they didn't know how much time they had- it was all so well written. I liked how their story was intertwined with Noah and Georgia and how when Georgia realized what had really happened all of those years ago her heart was broken but for the right reasons. I haven't cried like this from a book in a LONG TIME. I think I was just trying to quietly cry for the last like 10 chapters while my husband was asking me why I was reading something so sad. As much as I hate crying MAN do I love that books can make me feel this much. I would definitely recommend this one to anyone who wants a good cry with some heart break while it gets mended!!
