A Game in Yellow
by Hailey Piper
It’s pretty exciting to find a cosmic horror I like, because I usually get frustrated by them. I think the reason I was able to stick this one out was Hailey Piper’s characterization. The three central characters were very fascinating to read, especially Carmen, the main character. You probably could’ve removed the horror elements and I still would’ve enjoyed a Carmen character study.
This is one of those stories that slow burn and burn until a horrific ending. Some passages just felt like flowery nothingness, ..but it kind of worked for me because of how psychological this book ended up being. 3.5 stars.
