True Story
by Kate Reed Petty
Picking this up as a summer read and expecting little from it, and knowing absolutely nothing about it, I was quite surprised by its brilliantly woven structure with complex themes of trauma, domestic abuse, addiction, and toxic masculinity, and by the incredibly tragic yet empowering ending. Many survivors have found it damaging and even dangerous. In my case, it was the opposite. Let Alice write her story. Let us write ours.
