Simple premise with a lot of impact. This devastating horror novel centers on a group of boys who have been selected to take part in the Long Walk. A national competition that has contestants walk for as long as they can, survive the other walkers, don't slow down or they'll die. While we're never told why the long walk takes place we do get to see into the minds of the boys on the walk. Why they're there and what they hope to achieve. This is a tough scary read, King's prose is blunt as a 2x4 and swung with apathetic ferocity.
