Grave Descend by John Lange, Michael Crichton

4.0

Super solid pulp fiction. A 1970 thriller written under a pseudonym by Michael Crichton, this is a short (4hr audiobook), tight, expertly written island-noir story that will appeal to anyone who likes Dick Francis. Our hero is hired to retrieve some mystery items from a sunken yacht that went down in hammerhead-infested waters. He ends up going up against a crime syndicate, with the help of his island friends. There are evil fat villains, dangerous sexy dames, thugs, goons, punches, quick wits, and all the other ingredients of a fun thriller, with none of the padded 500 pages of extra bloat that so many books seem intent on adding on these days. Very recommended!
