The Listeners
by Maggie Stiefvater
Found myself completely engrossed in the complicated social spiderweb of the world we glimpse through the prose of this book; felt it all the more acutely for how familiar the thoughts and feelings of June and Hannelore were to me. And of course, Maggie Stiefvater knows how to give us magic that is terrifying and wonderful, and it’s deployed here without ever overwhelming the depth of her historical research.
Rating might’ve gone even higher ifJune and Tucker had gotten to fuck nasty instead of getting blue balled three - THREE! - times. (This is mostly a joke, I actually thought it was extremely funny and in line with the story that they kept getting interrupted by historical events and shit.) I hope they had the time of their lives in Pensacola after all this. It’s what they deserve.
