Lay Down My Sword And Shield by James Lee Burke

3.0

I read [b:Feast Day Of Fools|10081131|Feast Day Of Fools (Hackberry Holland, #3)|James Lee Burke|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1305929174s/10081131.jpg|14977891] before reading this, not realizing that it was part of a series. This is the first Hackberry Holland book. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as Feast Day.

This book is good if you're looking for Hack's "formation story". Much of the plot covers Hack's time in a Korean prison camp, which is understandably unpleasant. But the prose lacks the simple beauty of Feast Day.

Good, but not essential.
